7, 10 or 14 Days |
Price From $2645 USD per person

Two Worlds, One Journey

Prepare for a journey that gives you two completely different sides of Africa. First the open plains — the mighty Lion, the majestic Elephant, the rare Black Rhino, the graceful Leopard and the stoic Cape Buffalo, spread across the most celebrated parks in East Africa. Then the misty highlands of Uganda, where steep forest trails lead to one of the rarest encounters in the world: face to face with a family of mountain gorillas.

Choose the length that fits you. 7 days takes you straight to the essentials — the Maasai Mara and gorilla trekking in Bwindi. 10 days trades Kenya for Tanzania’s full Northern Circuit. 14 days gives you everything: Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in one seamless trip.

The Journey from Savanna to Rainforest

This adventure brings together East Africa’s great wildlife regions in one route. You begin on the open plains of the Maasai Mara, searching for the Big Five on morning and afternoon game drives, with picnic lunches often taken out in the reserve. In the Serengeti, the name comes from the Maasai for “endless plain”, huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope dominate the landscape, and depending on the season you may witness the Great Wildebeest Migration crossing it.

During the days in Tanzania you will visit three more landscapes. Lake Manyara lies at the foot of the Rift Valley escarpment, known for its lush groundwater forest, its birdlife and its famous tree-climbing lions. Ngorongoro Crater, often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, offers one of the best opportunities anywhere to see the Big Five in a single day, and is home to the endangered black rhino. Last but not least, Tarangire is baobab country, famous for its giant baobab trees and large elephant herds.

Then the landscape changes completely. You fly on to Uganda and drive southwest through rolling hills, terraced landscapes and lush countryside, a region known as the Switzerland of Uganda, to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After a briefing at the park headquarters, you set off into the dense rainforest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. The trek takes you through steep forested hills and thick vegetation, and every step is part of the adventure. When you locates a gorilla family, you spend one hour in their company. It’s a remarkable and genuinely emotional experience that very few people ever get to experience

Travelling with limited time? The 7-day programme takes you straight to the essentials: the Maasai Mara and gorilla trekking in Bwindi. The 10-day programme trades Kenya for Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. And the 14-day programme gives you all of it.

Meeting the Mountain Gorillas

Bwindi Forest is one of only two places on earth where mountain gorillas still live in the wild and with around 459 of the roughly 1,060 that remain, nearly half of them are here. The trek is unpredictable by nature: it can take an hour or most of a day, through steep, muddy, tangled terrain, until the guides ahead of you signal that they’ve found them. That uncertainty is part of the magical adventure. When you finally sit down a few metres from a silverback and his family, the forest goes quiet and an hour passes faster than you can believe. The fees for mountain gorilla trekking (so-called gorilla permits) go directly toward paying park rangers, funding veterinary care, and supporting local communities. This has resulted in the mountain gorilla being the only wild ape population whose numbers are increasing rather than declining.

Discover Africa’s Big 5

The Big 5 is a term used to describe the five most iconic wild animals in Africa: the African lion, African elephant, African leopard, Cape buffalo, and black rhinoceros. These animals have deep cultural significance in Africa and have been the subject of many myths, legends, and traditional beliefs. Visiting the Maasai Mara, Lake Manyara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire means you can check off the Big Five from your bucket list. Each park has its own collection of animals, so you’ll see a vast range of wildlife in a relatively small area.
