This expedition trek starts in Kathmandu. Then go by airplane to Lukla and then on foot to Phakding. After a short stay in “Lodge City,” we trek along the Dudh Koshi River to Namche Bazaar, where we will stay for an acclimatization day with time for visits to monasteries and museums. Then we continue along the River Dudh Koshi, with its spectacular views of Mount Everest through the Rhododendron jungle to the Tengboche monastery. Next, on to Pangboche and eventually Pheriche through the Imja Valley and Dingboche, where we will spend another day acclimatizing and doing a short trek to see the views of Mount Lhotse and other mighty peaks. We then continue east from the Imja Khola Valley to Chukung Valley. The next day we cross the Lhotse and Imja glacier moraine and reach Island Peak Base Camp. We will now start training climbing techniques in preparation for the ascent, and the next day, after a final equipment check, we will walk to the Island Peak High Camp. Finally, on the 12th day of the expedition, it’s time for the ascent to the Island Peak summit. It will be a long day’s climb over icy crevasses and rocky ridges, using all the techniques trained on the way up the mountain, but it will be worth all the effort. After resting for a while at 6189m altitude, we descend to Chukung. After a long sleep, we return to Namche and then to Lukla, where we celebrate the achievement of conquering an epic 6000 peak. The next day, we travel by plane to Kathmandu.

Trek Difficulty:

Level: Tough+

Trekking experience is essential and preferably at altitude. You need complete confidence in your ability to trek for many days over difficult terrain. You may encounter extreme altitude and weather conditions and need to use ice axes and crampons. Stamina is essential as walking days last six to nine hours (sometimes more on occasion). Daily ascents will likely be around 2,955ft to 3,280ft (900m to 1,000m), perhaps with the odd day around 3,610ft to 3,940ft (1,100m to 1,200m).
